About Us
This site is still under construction so please forgive any errors on our part.
The Rockcastle County Historical Society of Rockcastle County Kentucky is dedicated to preserving local history and heritage for the purposes of helping people remember where we come from and how we are all connected. Rockcastle County holds a place in American history where our nation began, and the more complicated narrative of the Native nations that remained from before. Rockcastle County was once the terminus of the railroad and considered to be the gateway to the west. Since then the ebbs and flows of an extraction economy and later a tourist economy have shaped and molded our little community in ways that are difficult to understand unless you know the history. Our goal is to tell the history as it is; to hold on to the past so we can move into the future.
